Rohit Sharma has told the Mumbai Cricket Association that he will be available for Mumbai in the Vijay Hazare Trophy in December, according to the Indian Express. The India batter made himself available only after India’s home ODI series against Sri Lanka.

The Vijay Hazare Trophy is a cricket tournament played in India, administered by the Board of Control for Cricket in India, and contested by state and city teams in a league and playoff format.

Along with the inter-zonal Deodhar Trophy, it forms the top level of List A cricket in the country and is an important feeder tournament for selection in the Indian National Cricket Team. Matches consist of 50 overs per side, similar to One Day International matches.

It was initially a zonal tournament and became a national tournament in 2002. Vidarbha are the defending champions after winning the 2025-26 edition.

The ODI series between India and Sri Lanka is scheduled from December 13 to 19 in Delhi, Bengaluru and Ahmedabad. The domestic league stage runs from December 14 to 29, leaving Sharma a narrow window to play for Mumbai. Mumbai kick off their Vijay Hazare Trophy campaign against Services on December 14.

Sharma featured for Mumbai in the previous season as well. Several other national team cricketers went back to their respective state teams as per BCCI directives after the board directed all national team cricketers to play domestic cricket if not engaged in international games.

He has informed the MCA that he will be playing for Mumbai in the Vijay Hazare Trophy and to consider him available after India’s three-ODI series against Sri Lanka at home. How many matches he will be available for, he will inform the MCA later. Because of national team commitments, the batter may not be able to play all of the matches for Mumbai.
