Rachin Ravindra and Mark Chapman have been ruled out of New Zealand's ODI series against India. Tim Seifert has been added for the full series while Henry Nicholls joins for the first three matches.

Key takeaways

  • Rachin Ravindra and Mark Chapman are out of the five-match ODI series against India.
  • Chapman needs two more weeks for his left hamstring; Ravindra needs more time for his right shoulder.
  • Tim Seifert joins for the entire series; Henry Nicholls is in for the first three ODIs.
  • The first ODI is at Eden Park, Auckland on Wednesday, November 4.

Rachin Ravindra and Mark Chapman have been ruled out of New Zealand's five-match ODI series against India. Chapman's left hamstring requires another two weeks of rehabilitation, while Ravindra's right shoulder needs more time before he can field at full capacity. Ravindra injured his shoulder during a promo shoot, and Chapman suffered a hamstring tear at the European T20 Premier League; both injuries occurred in September.

New Zealand have added Tim Seifert, originally named for the last two ODIs, for the entire series. Henry Nicholls, who will turn 35 this month, has been brought in for the first three matches.

Dean Foxcroft will join the squad for the last two matches as an additional bowling option. Matt Henry, who was ruled out midway through the T20I series against India, has joined the squad and his readiness to play will be assessed.

As a result, Matthew Fisher, who was named only for the last two games originally, has been included for the full series as an additional bowling option.

New Zealand head coach Rob Walter said: "Everyone knows what an asset Mark and Rachin are to this side so it's a shame they have to miss this series.

I caught up with Mark last week and although he's disappointed he's working hard to get back on the field. "

Nicholls made 119 while opening the batting for Canterbury in the Ford Trophy on Saturday. He is capped 92 times in ODIs, having been part of New Zealand's tour to West Indies in July.

The first ODI will be played at Eden Park in Auckland on Wednesday, November 4. India are touring New Zealand for a series that includes two Tests, five ODIs and five T20Is from October to December 2026. The Test series forms part of the 2025-2027 World Test Championship cycle. New Zealand Cricket confirmed the fixtures in June 2026 as part of the home international season.
