Match details

Barcelona led 3-1 at half-time. Raphinha opened the scoring after eight minutes when Fermín López drove through the defensive line and laid on a simple chance.

López doubled the lead with a fiery finish after cutting into the penalty area on the right and reading a pass from Yamal, then rifling powerfully across Antonio Sivera from a tight angle. Abde Rebbach had an early opportunity to return fire but was off target.

Yamal struck just before the break with a bullet of a first-time finish after Barcelona stroked a long sequence of passes in the final third.

Second half

Yamal's delicate flicked finish was initially chalked off for offside but replays overruled the flag. Anthony Gordon came off the bench to score Barcelona's fifth after receiving a defence-splitting ball from Rodri, then charging down on goal and lifting his shot calmly over the keeper for his first league goal. Mariano Díaz took advantage of slack defending in stoppage time to go clear and catch Joan García flat-footed.

Team news and context

Hansi Flick was without a handful of first-teamers, including Jules Koundé, Eric García, Andreas Christensen, Dani Olmo, Roony Bardghji, and Xavi Espart. The 2-1 loss to Real Madrid had represented Barcelona's first dropped points of the season.

Barcelona are top of La Liga with a goal difference of plus 34. Alavés sit in 15th place with 12 points from 11 games. Barcelona will continue their La Liga campaign after the international break.
