Australia Women’s first bilateral tour of South Africa has been postponed by one week and will now run from March 24 to April 18, 2027.

ESPNcricinfo reported the change was made to accommodate both teams playing in the inaugural ICC Women’s Champions Trophy, which concludes on February 28 in India.

Lokmat Times said the six-team T20I tournament will be held in India from February 14 to 28, 2027, featuring Australia, England, India, New Zealand, South Africa, and Sri Lanka.

Because both Australia and South Africa are competing in that event, their bilateral series required a revised schedule. The tour will feature three T20Is, three ODIs, and a one-off Test.

Australia’s women’s team is currently captained by Sophie Molineux and coached by Shelley Nitschke, and holds the top position in all ICC world rankings.

Why it matters

The series is historic because it marks Australia’s maiden bilateral visit to South Africa. ESPNcricinfo noted the one-off Test from April 15 to 18 will be only the second women’s Test between the two sides, following Australia’s innings win in Perth in February 2024.

It will also be the first women’s Test played in KuGompo City, also known as East London. Lokmat Times reported that Australia won the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup recently, while South Africa reached the semi-finals.

” He added that both Cricket South Africa and Cricket Australia worked to confirm the new dates after the ICC Women’s Champions Trophy scheduling.

What happens next

The multi-format series begins with three T20Is from March 24 to 30. Lokmat Times listed the 1st T20I on March 24 in Kimberley, the 2nd T20I on March 27 at Willowmoore Park in Benoni, and the 3rd T20I on March 30 in Potchefstroom.

ESPNcricinfo confirmed the second T20I will start at 2pm. The tour then moves to three ODIs from April 3 to 10, which count towards the 2025–2029 ICC Women’s Championship qualification journey for the 2029 ODI World Cup.

Lokmat Times listed the 1st ODI on April 3 in Durban, the 2nd ODI on April 7 in Paarl, and the 3rd ODI on April 10 at St George’s Park in Gqeberha, starting at 2pm.

ESPNcricinfo said the first ODI will be South Africa’s sixth Black Day ODI in Durban, aimed at raising awareness about the gender-based violence crisis in the country.

The tour concludes with the one-off Test from April 15 to 18 at Buffalo Park Cricket Stadium in KuGompo City, starting at 10am.
