Lowry joins McIlroy's Boston Common Golf in first TGL trade

Shane Lowry has left The Bay Golf Club to join Rory McIlroy at Boston Common Golf in the TGL's first-ever trade ahead of the 2027 season.

The Bay Golf Club will receive Boston Common Golf's fourth-round selection in the roster formation process for 2027, the right to swap one selection position with Boston Common Golf during one of the next three TGL offseasons, and commercial considerations.

The move reunites Lowry with McIlroy, who co-founded TGL alongside Tiger Woods and Mike McCarley. McIlroy described Lowry as a great friend and said he loves having him alongside him in team competition.

McIlroy added that the pair have had special wins together, including at the Zurich Classic, and praised Lowry's quality and commitment to winning for his teammates.

Lowry said he was delighted to join Boston Common Golf and looked forward to helping the team bring a championship to Boston.

League expansion and roster changes

Motor City Golf Club will join as a seventh team for the upcoming season, alongside Atlanta Drive GC, Boston Common Golf, Jupiter Links Golf Club, Los Angeles Golf Club, New York Golf Club and The Bay Golf Club.

Team rosters are expanding to five players per team, up from four players last season. Teams will still choose three players to compete in each match at SoFi Center.
