India's first ODI against Sri Lanka on December 13 has been moved from Delhi to Visakhapatnam. The BCCI made the change following a DDCA request over potential weather disruption and stadium renovation.

Key takeaways

  • First India-Sri Lanka ODI shifted from Delhi to Visakhapatnam
  • Match date remains December 13
  • Venue is now ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium
  • Second ODI in Bengaluru, third in Ahmedabad
  • T20Is in Rajkot, Cuttack and Pune

The Board of Control for Cricket in India has shifted the first One Day International between India and Sri Lanka from Delhi to Visakhapatnam.

The match, scheduled for December 13, will now take place at the ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium after the Delhi and District Cricket Association requested the move.

The BCCI said the venue change was made following the DDCA request, in view of potential weather disruption and proposed renovation work at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.

India Today reported that the DDCA also cited severe air pollution, noting that Delhi has faced past disruptions during winter fixtures involving visiting teams such as Sri Lanka and Bangladesh due to toxic air quality index levels.

This would have been the first ODI in Delhi since the 2023 World Cup. ESPNcricinfo noted that the last time Delhi hosted an international game in December was in 2017, when India played a Test against Sri Lanka. During that match, several Sri Lanka players came out to field wearing masks because of air pollution.

Sri Lanka will play three ODIs and three T20Is during the upcoming tour. The second ODI will be played in Bengaluru on December 18 and the third in Ahmedabad on December 19. The T20Is will be played between December 22 and 27 across Rajkot, Cuttack and Pune.

Wikipedia background says Sri Lanka is scheduled to tour India in December 2026 to play three ODIs and three T20Is. The BCCI confirmed the fixtures in March 2026 as part of the 2026-27 home international season.

India are currently in New Zealand for a five-match ODI series followed by two Tests, while Sri Lanka are in Pakistan for a two-match Test series starting November 9.
