Recent form
Sindhu arrives after a runner-up finish at the French Open Super 750, where she took the opening game against world No. 1 An Se Young before losing the final 16-21, 21-11, 21-12. It was only the second time in 11 meetings that Sindhu won a game off the Korean, who has now won 50 matches in a row. Sindhu, ranked 11th, had beaten Japan’s Hina Akechi in the semifinals and won the Japan Open title in July. She missed the 2025 Hylo Open while recovering from a foot injury.
Ashmita Chaliha, ranked 36th, produced the biggest win of her career at the French Open by beating three-time world champion and world No. 2 Akane Yamaguchi 21-19, 21-18 in 37 minutes. Yamaguchi had beaten her in straight games at the Denmark Open the week before. Ashmita lost to Nozomi Okuhara in the quarterfinals and won her maiden World Tour title at the Korea Masters Super 300 earlier this year.
Lakshya Sen withdrew from his French Open first-round match on medical grounds, ending his week in Paris before it began. The Commonwealth Games champion gets another opportunity in Saarbrücken to put a difficult run of results behind him. Ayush Shetty beat compatriot Kidambi Srikanth in the opening round in Paris but retired hurt against Naraoka while trailing 17-21, 6-11. Naraoka is also in the field here as the fifth seed. Unnati Hooda reached the semifinals here last year.
What happens next
India’s campaign begins at the Saarlandhalle when the main draw starts on October 27, 2026. More withdrawals are possible before and during the tournament, Sportstar noted.
