The Board of Control for Cricket in India has invited applications for two senior support-staff positions: fielding coach for the Senior Women’s National Team and head physiotherapist for the Senior Men’s National Team. The Board issued a circular for both roles, and bcci.tv published the official notice. The application window closes on November 16 at 5 PM IST.
Fielding Coach for Senior Women’s Team
Munish Bali has been the fielding coach with the Smriti Mandhana-led Indian women’s side since 2022.
Bali previously led Punjab U-15, U-16, U-17 and U-19 teams, was assistant coach with the 2008 World Cup-winning India Under-19 team, and was part of the Indian women’s cricket team in 2011 and 2012.
The role involves developing and implementing comprehensive fielding programmes to build a world-class fielding unit, conducting fielding sessions during practice and matches, providing individual coaching for skill development, using technology to monitor performance indicators, and maintaining fielding standards across formats and playing conditions.
Applicants must have represented India or another country at international level, or hold a minimum BCCI Level ‘B’ coaching certification or equivalent and have played at least 30 First-Class matches, or have coached an international team for at least one season or a T20 franchise or state team for at least two seasons.
They must also have a thorough understanding of the game, experience at the highest level, and experience of working in a multicultural team, with strong communication, teamwork, people management and problem-solving skills essential.
Head Physiotherapist for Senior Men’s Team
Kamlesh Jain, the Chennai-based head physiotherapist with India’s men’s cricket team, submitted his resignation to the BCCI in September and is set to end his four-year association with the side when India concludes its New Zealand tour in December.
Jain replaced Nitin Patel as physio in June 2022, with Patel moving to the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru before later joining Mumbai Indians. Recruited from Kolkata Knight Riders during Rahul Dravid’s tenure as India coach, Jain resigned from the national team.
The role involves match-day physio services, day-to-day injury management, prompt diagnosis of injuries and evidence-based treatment and return-to-play plans.
The appointee will coordinate with the BCCI’s Sports Science and Medicine team and the Centre of Excellence, and contribute to research and development, professional education and the improvement of clinical protocols.
What Happens Next
Interested candidates must submit applications for both roles by November 16 at 5 PM IST.
The fielding coach will manage fielding performance across all three formats of the game, while the head physiotherapist will support the senior men’s side during its international commitments, including the New Zealand tour.
The BCCI’s job advert lists maintaining consistent fielding standards across formats and playing conditions, including when player availability changes due to injuries or international commitments, as a key responsibility for the fielding coach.
