Sergio Perez will not attend the fan forum at his home Grand Prix because of illness, Motorsport.com reported. The Cadillac driver is still expected to contest both Friday practice sessions at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez. The Mexico Grand Prix will mark his 300th Formula 1 Grand Prix start.
Perez is the third driver to fall ill so far this week ahead of the Mexico Grand Prix. His teammate Valtteri Bottas also missed Thursday’s media day due to illness, alongside Mercedes’ Kimi Antonelli. Both Bottas and Antonelli are expected to participate in Friday’s practice sessions. Max Verstappen blamed the issue on the demanding Formula 1 schedule, citing three weeks in a row and the stress of triple-headers.
Cadillac’s statement said: “Checo Pérez will unfortunately be unable to attend today’s fan forum at his home grand prix due to illness. Both he and the team apologise to all the fans who have come out to see him.
Checo and the team has taken the decision to allow him additional time to rest and recover this morning, ahead of today’s on-track sessions. ”
Team-mate Valtteri Bottas will fulfil all media duties and take part in Free Practice 2 today as planned. Cadillac’s test driver Colton Herta will take Bottas’s place in FP1 as part of the sport’s commitment to allow rookie drivers to participate in F1 practice sessions.
Should Perez not be fit enough for FP1, it is likely Bottas will contest that session with Herta taking the Mexican’s Cadillac, while reserve driver Zhou Guanyu is also in Mexico.
Perez signed a contract extension. Bottas is yet to be confirmed for 2027. Cadillac is bottom of the championship with zero points from 18 grands prix this season. Perez has won six Grands Prix across 15 seasons and was runner-up in the Formula One World Drivers’ Championship in 2023 with Red Bull.
