Paris St-Germain winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia will undergo knee surgery after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament during his side's 4-2 win over Barcelona on Tuesday. The injury came during a challenge, leaving him unable to put weight on his right leg as he was substituted in the 59th minute of the Champions League tie at Parc des Princes.

Kvaratskhelia, 25, shared an emotional statement on Instagram following the injury. He said: "Many people asked me about this stand, many said that if all the footballers in the world prayed, the game would end in a draw. This could be true but before every game I play I ask God to leave the field healthy but in vain. It hasn't been a long time, but it's still on my mind - why me anyway? I have never missed anything probably I prepared for this game the best I have ever prepared for. I thought I was prepared for everything, but not, and I realize that God chose me and if I protected the players on another field, I'm ready to go through these months in labour, pain, tears. I know I have to come back stronger for my people who always have my back, I won't let you down I promise I won't waste a second. Thank you all for your support see you soon."

The Georgia international has featured 11 times for PSG this season after joining from Napoli in January 2025.

PSG and Barcelona were level at 2-2 heading into the final 10 minutes before the hosts scored twice late on to maintain their winning start to their Champions League defence. They sit top of the table with three wins from three matches.

The club also confirmed Ousmane Dembele and Marquinhos will be absent for a few weeks. Both players have thigh injuries and will remain under treatment for the next few weeks.

Kvaratskhelia will definitely miss PSG's Champions League trip to Aston Villa on December 8. The injury raises serious concerns over whether he will play again this season.
