Bangladesh off-spinner Aliss Al Islam has been reported for a suspect bowling action following his team's seven-wicket defeat to Afghanistan in the ODI tri-series at Sharjah on Wednesday. The 29-year-old made his ODI debut in the match and went wicketless while conceding 47 runs in 8.3 overs as Afghanistan chased down Bangladesh's total of 160.
ICC process and previous reports
The International Cricket Council confirmed on Thursday that match officials had questioned the legality of Aliss' bowling action in their report. The spinner will now undergo an independent assessment at an ICC-accredited testing centre in accordance with the governing body's Illegal Bowling Action Regulations. Under ICC regulations, a bowler's elbow extension must not exceed 15 degrees between the bowling arm reaching the horizontal position and the release of the ball.
Aliss is permitted to continue bowling in international matches pending the outcome of the assessment.
This is not the first time the spinner's action has come under scrutiny. He was reported during the Bangladesh Premier League in 2019 and again in 2025, although he subsequently received clearance to resume bowling. Aliss made his T20I debut earlier this month against Sri Lanka at the Asian Games before earning his maiden ODI appearance against Afghanistan.
Bangladesh's defeat on Wednesday ended its campaign in the three-team ODI series, having previously lost to Zimbabwe. Afghanistan and Zimbabwe will contest the final on October 23.
