Novak Djokovic begins his Basel campaign against Ugo Humbert with his ATP Finals qualification hopes still in balance, according to Apex Sports News. The Serbian player’s participation in the season-ending event remains possible as he opens at the Swiss indoor tournament. ATP Finals qualification still possible

Djokovic is a Serbian professional tennis player who has been ranked world No. 1 in men’s singles by the ATP for a record 428 weeks and finished as year-end No. 1 a record eight times. He has been ranked No. 1 at least once in a year for a record 13 different years. His career totals include 102 ATP Tour-level singles titles, a record 24 majors, a record 40 Masters titles, a record seven year-end championships, and an Olympic gold medal. He is the only man in tennis history to be the reigning champion of all four majors at once across three different surfaces, the only man to achieve a triple Career Grand Slam, and the first player to complete a Career Golden Masters, which he accomplished twice. He is also the only player in singles to have won all of the Big Titles over the course of his career.

The ATP Finals is the season-ending event for the top qualifiers on the ATP Tour. Djokovic’s Basel campaign against Humbert represents one of his remaining opportunities to secure a spot in that tournament. His season so far has included a withdrawal from Adelaide before the Australian Open began on 18 January 2026.
