Formula 1 has agreed a five-year contract extension that keeps the Brazilian Grand Prix on the calendar until at least 2035. Autosport reported that Formula 1 chiefs, the city of Sao Paulo and Interlagos promoters agreed to the new deal. Motorsport.com confirmed the same five-year extension.

Formula 1 is the highest class of worldwide racing for open-wheel, single-seater formula cars, run by the Formula One Group and sanctioned by the FIA.

The FIA Formula One World Championship has been one of the world’s premier forms of motorsport since its inaugural running in 1950.

A Formula One season consists of a series of races, known as Grands Prix, which take place in multiple countries and continents on purpose-built circuits or closed roads.

Officially dubbed the Sao Paulo Grand Prix to reflect the financial contribution of the city council, the Brazil race last signed a contract extension on the eve of the 2023 event. That five-year deal took the race to 2030. Autosport said Brazil is now the next race in line to receive long-term treatment as Formula 1 management seeks to lock up its races in key markets.

The long-term arrangement gives the authorities the stability to write off investments in ageing infrastructure, according to Autosport. Brazil vows to continue upgrading its facilities. Motorsport.com reported that the championship returned to the Autodromo Jose Carlos Pace in 1990, switching from Rio de Janeiro.

The 2024 Sao Paulo Grand Prix was held on 3 November 2024 at the Interlagos Circuit in Sao Paulo and was the twenty-first round of the 2024 Formula One World Championship. The 2022 edition took place on 13 November 2022 at the same circuit and was the twenty-first and penultimate round of that season.

Sao Paulo will host Formula 1 through 2035 while authorities upgrade infrastructure. The deal runs from the end of the previous agreement that covered the race through 2030. No future race date or start time is provided in the sources.
