Context

The 2026 Chennai Open is a professional women’s tennis tournament and the third edition of the event. It is part of the 2026 WTA Tour in the 250 category and is played on outdoor hardcourts.

It is the last edition of the tournament as it is slated to be relocated to Manila in 2027. Tjen clinched her maiden Tour-level title at Chennai. She is Indonesia’s highest-ranked woman in singles since May 2025, and her career-high singles ranking is world No.

35, the second highest achieved by an Indonesian woman after Yayuk Basuki. This is the first time that I’ve played in this kind of outside environment.

It’s definitely not easy for me and I’m pretty sure it’s also not easy for anybody else as well because we’re so used to playing in a quiet environment. So,I was just trying to be focussed there.

We were told by the supervisor that there will be fireworks going on during the match and knowing that in advance definitely helped. I was trying to just tune it out as much as possible.

It’s definitely not easy because you don’t know when it’s going to happen. It is constantly happening but it’s at random times.

What happens next

Tjen will face Magda Linette in the singles final. Linette beat Anastasia Zakharova 2-6, 6-2, 6-3 in her semifinal after losing the first set. The match lasted one hour and 55 minutes and was Linette’s third three-setter this week.

Linette finished as runner-up in the inaugural edition in 2022 but did not play here last season. She is a former world No. 19 and a 2023 Australian Open semifinalist. Zakharova is ranked world No. 107.
