Five finals in Odense on 18 October, and the women's singles nearly produced a surprise. World No. 1 An Se-young lost the first game to Japan's Akane Yamaguchi and trailed 5-11 in the decider before winning 21-23, 21-14, 21-18 to keep her Denmark Open title.

Women's singles: An finds a way

Yamaguchi's quick drops and drives caused An problems for much of the match. The Korean steadied after the change of ends in the third game, went ahead at 13-12 and did not trail again.

It was the latest instalment of a long rivalry. Sportstar put An's head-to-head lead over Yamaguchi at 24-15; the pair had last met in the Asian Games final in Aichi-Nagoya, which An also won.

Men's singles: no home win

Denmark's Anders Antonsen, the fifth seed, reached the men's final but lost 21-15, 13-21, 21-13 to France's Alex Lanier, the seventh seed and reigning world champion.

The doubles

  • Men's doubles: Indonesia's Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Shohibul Fikri beat Malaysia's Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik.

  • Women's doubles: second seeds Pearly Tan and Thinaah Muralitharan of Malaysia beat Japan's Hinata Suzuki and Nao Yamakita 21-18, 21-11.

  • Mixed doubles: China's Jiang Zhen Bang and Wei Ya Xin beat top seeds Feng Yan Zhe and Huang Dong Ping 21-18, 8-21, 21-16.

India in Odense

It was a short week for India's leading players. PV Sindhu, Lakshya Sen and the men's doubles pair Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty all went out in the first round of the Super 750 event.

The tour moves straight on to the French Open in Paris from 20 to 25 October, where An is drawn to play Sindhu in the round of 32.
