## Article

Magda Linette reached the quarterfinals of the WTA Chennai Open after defeating Japan's Moyuka Uchijima 7-6(5), 6-0 on Thursday, Sportstar reported. The victory moved Linette into the last eight of the WTA event in Chennai.

The WTA's official match highlights video for the Chennai quarterfinals also lists Linette's quarterfinal against Japan's Mai Hontama, alongside J. Tjen versus P. Kudermetova, R. Montgomery versus M. Rajeshwaran Revathi, and A. Zakharova versus L. Stefanini.

## Context and recent form

Linette was the runner-up at the WTA Chennai Open in 2022. Months later, in January 2023, she reached her maiden Australian Open semifinals, the best Grand Slam run of her career. The 34-year-old Polish player has suffered seven first-round exits in the past five months.

She described the difficult stretch as a combination of tough draws, lost self-confidence, and defeats from edge points that spiraled downward. Linette said she decided to keep working, not to panic, and not to find excuses despite facing criticism.

She added that ups and downs are necessary in sports.

## Support and outlook

Through the challenging season, Linette has had support from Polish great Agnieszka Radwanska, who works with her as a consultant for 10-12 weeks a year.

After her win over Uchijima, Linette said she had a worse time recently but had started getting her groove back in Chennai, which she described as great and helpful in bringing back good memories. She said she hopes those memories will help her rediscover her rhythm.

## What happens next

Linette will play Mai Hontama in the quarterfinal on Friday. The WTA Chennai Open is part of the WTA Tour.
