## Article

India's Vaishnavi Adkar and Rutuja Bhosale reached the doubles final of the WTA 250 Chennai Open on Saturday, November 7, 2026, becoming the first all-Indian pair to reach a WTA Tour-level doubles final.

The pair beat second seeds Weronika Falkowska of Poland and Alana Smith of the USA 6-2, 2-6, 10-8 in a thrilling semifinal at the SDAT Stadium in Nungambakkam.

Cheered by 500-odd spectators on Centre Court, the Indians recovered from a mid-match slump to prevail in the deciding super tie-break after the Polish-American combination had threatened to snatch the contest away.

Vaishnavi Adkar received a medical timeout for treatment to her strapped left thigh, the same issue that had affected her during her second-round loss in singles.

Rutuja Bhosale, who has been struggling with a left hip issue and also fell sick during the week, said having her support system around made a significant difference.

## Why it matters

The achievement is significant for Indian women's tennis, with no all-Indian combination having previously reached a final at the main WTA Tour level.

Shikha Uberoi and her sister Neha had reached the finals of the 2005 Sunfeast Open and Guangzhou Open, but Neha represented the USA, making them an Indo-American combination.

Former India player Sania Mirza won 43 doubles titles during her illustrious career but never partnered an Indian in those triumphs.

Ankita Raina and Karman Thandi won a WTA 125 doubles title in 2018, a level below the main Tour, while Prarthna Thombare reached three WTA 125 finals with Dutch partner Arianne Hartono.

Adkar and Bhosale said they had no idea they were scripting history when they won the semifinal.

## What happens next

In the summit clash, the Indians will be up against the all-Swiss duo of Naima Karamoko and Simona Waltert. Vaishnavi said it is the last Tour-level event in India and she is really glad that they could make the best out of it.

Rutuja said it is an incredible feeling to reach the final on home soil, doing it with someone she really enjoys playing with, and that it is something she will always remember.
