## Article

Barcelona beat Aston Villa 3-0 at Camp Nou on Tuesday evening, ending the English side's perfect start to the Champions League campaign. Raphinha scored twice and Lamine Yamal opened the scoring as Barcelona returned to winning ways in Europe's premier club competition. The match was played in driving Catalan rain on Unai Emery's 55th birthday, with the Villa manager returning to his homeland.

## How the match unfolded

Lamine Yamal scored within seven minutes after Joao Gomes played a blind pass across his own penalty area, and the Spain forward curled his shot into the far corner. It was Yamal's 13th goal of the campaign, to which he also has 11 assists.

Raphinha then struck twice at the start of the second half, first firing from just inside the area with a big deflection wrong-footing Villa goalkeeper Suzuki, and then tapping home a cross from Cancelo that bent around the defence.

Barcelona's victory left Villa ruing missed first-half chances, with Sky Sports' Paul Merson saying the visitors shot themselves in the foot early doors and were not clinical.

## What the result means

The win moved Barcelona above Aston Villa into second in the Champions League table. Villa had lost just one of their previous nine encounters before the match, and it was their first game at the Nou Camp for 46 years.

Barcelona have been in free-scoring form this season, averaging four goals a game.

Emery said the result was not good, that his side made mistakes and were not clinical with the chances they had in the first half, but that they had nine points from good work and needed experiences for the players.

## About the competition

## What happens next

The sources do not give the date, venue or time of Barcelona's next match. Sky Sports said Villa's Champions League fixtures and results are available, but did not list them.
