## Article

Hyderabad and Punjab drew their Ranji Trophy 2026-27 Elite Group B match at the Gymkhana Ground in Hyderabad on Thursday, with Punjab securing three points and Hyderabad one after taking a 51-run first-innings lead.

Punjab declared their second innings at 240 for six, having bowled Hyderabad out for 380 after scoring 431 in the first innings.

Prabhsimran Singh scored his second half-century of the match with 68, while captain Uday Saharan remained unbeaten on 55 and opener Vihaan Malhotra made 53.

Harnoor Pannu departed early on the final day, and Prabhsimran reached his fifty off 63 balls before a mistimed reverse sweep ended his knock. V. Milind broke through his defence.

Jashanpreet Singh and Salil Arora fell on either side of lunch, and Enamjot Chahal followed a few overs later. Once Uday Saharan completed his half-century, Punjab declared with a 291-run lead, and the sides settled on a draw.

## Key moments and captains’ views

Two passages of play decided the contest, and both swung Punjab’s way. On day two, with Punjab wobbling at 315 for nine, Salil Arora and Umesh Yadav defied Hyderabad with a 116-run stand, the former contributing 78, to lift Punjab to 431.

The other was an out-of-syllabus Vihaan special where he snared four wickets in six overs to help bowl out the home side for 380.

Punjab captain Uday Saharan said his side had a good reading of Hyderabad’s bowlers and thought of doing something different, explaining that Vihaan bowls a little slower and they expected him to bowl with some turn but he bowled straight and got wickets.

Hyderabad captain Chama Milind admitted that in the last-wicket partnership Punjab got crucial runs and that when Vihaan came, Hyderabad did not assess him correctly.

## What happens next

Hyderabad now turns its attention to a home game against Chhattisgarh, while Punjab hosts Andhra. The Ranji Trophy is the premier first-class cricket tournament in India, organised by the BCCI. The Irani Trophy is an annual one-off First-Class cricket match organised by the BCCI and contested each season by the reigning Ranji Trophy champions and a multi-state Rest of India team composed of players from the other state teams.
