## Article

Manchester United beat Roma 3-2 at Old Trafford in the Champions League on Tuesday, recovering from a 2-0 deficit after 17 minutes to secure a dramatic victory.

Bruno Fernandes converted a retaken penalty, and Matheus Cunha scored in the 83rd and 86th minutes to complete the comeback. Roma had taken the lead through Matias Soule's 11th-minute strike and Donyell Malen's penalty.

It was the quickest United had conceded twice in any European game at its iconic stadium.

## United fans protest and Carrick reacts

Before the comeback, furious United fans attempted to disrupt the match by hurling tennis balls on the field in the 21st minute.

The pre-planned protest marked 21 years since the Glazer family staged a leveraged buyout of the club and was the latest show of dissent from supporters who have long called for the American owners to sell their controlling stake.

Under-fire coach Michael Carrick said, "I’m not getting too carried away with things. I think it’s an important night.

" Fernandes said, "We knew after halftime that we still had the fans with us and we felt that at any moment we could change that with a goal, with something. "

## Other Champions League results

Elsewhere on Tuesday, Paris Saint-Germain beat Villarreal 6-0 after powering into a 4-0 lead after 17 minutes.

Joao Neves, Desire Doue, Senny Mayulu and Fabian Ruiz scored inside the first 17 minutes, which UEFA said was the fastest any team had netted four goals in a Champions League game.

Ruiz and 17-year-old David Boly, four minutes after coming on as a substitute for his competition debut, added goals in the second half. PSG is the only team on 12 points. Barcelona beat Aston Villa 3-0, and Bayern Munich won 2-0 at Atletico Madrid.

## Context and what happens next

The UEFA Champions League is an annual club football competition organised by UEFA that is contested by top-division European clubs. It is the most prestigious club competition in European football. The 2026-27 season is the 72nd season of the tournament.

PSG is chasing a hat trick of Champions League titles, which would see Luis Enrique’s team match the feat of Real Madrid from 2016-18.

For Roma, the loss repeated a recent pattern after the club conceded three goals in the last 10 minutes in a 4-3 loss to Real Madrid last month.
