## Summary

India passed 100 medals at the 2026 Asian Para Games, with world records from Sandeep and Haney and Games records from Deepthi Jeevanji and Praveen Kumar. These athletes deserve steady attention, not just a medal-day mention.

## Article

Look at the numbers from Nagoya. Sandeep won the men's 400m T64 in a world record 52.28 seconds. Haney threw 60.49m in the javelin F37/38, another world record. Deepthi Jeevanji ran 56.36 seconds in the women's 400m T20, a Games record. Praveen Kumar cleared 2.05m, also a Games record. Sheetal Devi beat Alim Nur Syahidah 142-139 to keep her compound title, on the same day she won mixed team gold. And India went past 100 medals.

That is not a good week. That is a sporting system producing world-class results.

## The attention arrives late and leaves early

Too often, para sport gets a burst of headlines on medal day and very little before or after. Most of these athletes have been competing at this level for years. Deepthi Jeevanji was already a Paralympic bronze medallist from Paris 2024. Nitesh Kumar, who beat Pramod Bhagat in the SL3 final this week, is the reigning Paralympic champion. The stories were there long before the medals.

Fans cannot follow athletes they never hear about. Sponsors rarely back sports that fans do not follow. The gap is not in performance; it is in visibility.

## What would help

Regular coverage of national and international para events, not only multi-sport Games. Results and profiles that explain classifications, so readers understand what a T64 or an SL3 final actually is. And the same treatment for para medallists that we give to any other champion: previews before they compete, not just a line after they win.

These athletes are delivering. The least the rest of us can do is pay attention between the medal ceremonies.
