India's men and women have won the inaugural Commonwealth Kabaddi Championship 2026 at the Veer Savarkar Sports Complex in Ahmedabad. Sportstar reported that both Indian teams finished unbeaten in the tournament, with the women beating Uganda 35-15 and the men crushing Sri Lanka 54-20 in the finals.

India's women stepped up first at the venue on Saturday against Uganda. Sakshi collected nine points for India, Anu Sen scored six points, and captain Nidhi Sharma added five points. Ritu Mitharwal and Suman Sahu both recorded four tackle points.

India inflicted two all-outs and led the tackle points 20-14 and raid points 10-1. Nakayongo Shirat scored 11 of Uganda's 15 points. Uganda had delivered a strong defensive performance in the semifinal but could not carry that form into the final.

India's men entered the final unbeaten and jumped to a 30-10 lead at the end of the first half against Sri Lanka. Aditya Shinde led the raid points with a Super 10 from 14 raids. Bharat Hooda contributed eight raid points without being tackled once.

Yogesh Dahiya led the tackle points with five points, while three other players added two tackle points each. India inflicted four all-outs and secured 30 raid points and 14 tackle points. Maduwantha was the only Sri Lankan player to score more than five points.

Sri Lanka managed just 11 raid points and nine tackle points.

The championship was the inaugural edition of the Commonwealth Kabaddi Championship, held at the Veer Savarkar Sports Complex in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, featuring national men's and women's teams from across Commonwealth nations to promote the sport towards future inclusion in the main Commonwealth Games programme.

The India men's national kabaddi team, governed by the Amateur Kabaddi Federation of India established in 1972, is the most successful national kabaddi side in history, having secured gold medals at the Asian Games in nine out of ten editions since 1990 and winning all three Kabaddi World Cup editions in 2004, 2007, and 2016, as well as the 2025 Kabaddi World Cup organised by World Kabaddi.

India has also won the Asian Kabaddi Championship eight times across nine men's editions.

The sources do not state a next match, date, venue or decision for India after the championship.
